I am a native Houstonian who loves getting to spend her college years in Austin. I have lived in the same house since I was three years old, and I grew up with two wonderful parents and one younger brother who attends that college north of the Red River. I graduated from Stratford High School in 2010, and I plan on graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. I am also finishing up my final year in the UTeach program, where I will be awarded with a teaching certificate for high school English. I have wanted to become a teacher ever since the age of eight, as that is when I was inspired by an outstanding third grade teacher. My love of reading and writing spurred me to pursue English, and I am so excited to be interning with Ms. Drown on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in her 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 8th period classes.

When I am not in class, you might have a hard time finding me. I have a wide range of activities and passions, and I am constantly on the go. I am a YoungLife leader in the Austin area, so I love spending time with high school students. I also have a huge passion for exercise - and I love running, swimming, biking, rollerblading, hiking, and stand-up paddleboarding. I have completed three half marathons, and my fourth will take place in San Francisco in October of this year. In addition to staying active, I also love watching sports. I played volleyball throughout high school, and I love cheering on my hometown Houston Texans, the Philadelphia Phillies, and, of course, the Texas Longhorns.

I absolutely love to travel. I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain in the summer of 2012, and it ignited a desire inside me to travel anywhere and everywhere. One of the things I love about literature is the fact that books take you to places you never knew existed. You get to experience these magical places right along with the characters.

I also love writing, especially creative writing, and I maintain my own fitness and healthy living blog. Going along with that idea, I love cooking, baking, coming up with new delicious recipes, and taking photographs of the food that I cook and eat. Yes, I am one of those people. I am always looking to discover hidden Austin restaurants, so if you have a favorite, please let me know!

And, of course, as an English major, I absolutely love reading. I tend to bring my Kindle along with me everywhere I go, just in case I find myself with a few spare minutes. My ideal bookshelf would feature a very wide variety of texts, and here are some of my very favorites:

I am always on the hunt for new books to read, so please let me know if you have any that you recommend. I am looking so forward to this year and growing together as a class. I hope to teach you how to apply the skills and knowledge you gain in my English classroom to the world outside the classroom as well.
